Anhui University was founded in the year of 1928. The library of Anhui University which coverd total area of 10,350㎡ was built when Anhui University was rebuilt in 1958. After entering new century ， in August of 2002 YiFu Library which occupied approximately 23,000㎡ was built up on Huangshan Road and it is the central library of Anhui University. Now a new library of about 36,000㎡ is under construction in QingYuan Campus of the university. The main building of YiFu library is four storeys and the tower building has ten storeys. There are auditoriums ， meeting rooms ， exhibition rooms ， stacks ， nineteen faculty reading rooms ， three ordinary reading rooms capable of 3500 people and a multimedia reading room capable of 260 people in YiFu library.
Anhui University Library is well supplied with literary resources on most subjects. Its collection includes 1.82 million volumes. Among them the number of Chinese books is morn than one million ， foreign language books over 200,000 ， thread-bound books about 130,000 ， files of newspapers and periodicals nearly 180,000. In addition ， it contains more than 6,000 kinds of Chinese and foreign language periodicals ， together with 670 kinds of periodicals before liberation and 630 kinds of key periodicals.
What's more ， the library has attached much importance to the development of electronic resources construction. Now it contains 300,000 kinds of electronic books ， 20,000 volumes of electronic teaching reference books ， over 100,000 Chinese Doctors' and Masters' theses ， 260,000 chinese meeting papers ， nearly 5,000 kinds of foreign language electronic periodicals ， and over 7,000 kinds of Chinese electronic periodicals. Furthermore ， the library also has many databases of academic resource such as Elsevier, EBSCO ， Springer-Link ， Cambridge Scientific Abstracts ， OCLC Firstsearch ， PQDD ， the CNKI academic periodicals ， WanFang data resource system and others. These abundant electronic resources are open in 24 hours to the faculty and students of the whole university and some of the electronic resources are shared with other universities and colleges.
The library now includes the departments of administration ， cataloging ， periodicals ， special collection ， reader service ， information reference, technical service and the branch of QingYuan Campus.
Since the nation's “ 211” project was implemented ， Anhui University Library has been speeding up the progress of automatization ， digitization and networking in order to obtain greater improvement and to reach a higher level.
